About Before the Dawn

Before the Dawn, a Finnish band formed in 1999, has etched its name in the melodic death and gothic metal scenes with a sound that blends melodic intensity and brooding atmospheres. After disbanding in 2013, Before the Dawn’s music continued to gain traction organically, amassing tens of thousands of Spotify followers and hundreds of thousands of monthly streams, all without active promotion or social media engagement.

The global pandemic reignited the band’s creative spark, leading to a vinyl reissue of their critically acclaimed 2006 album "Deadlight," which proudly topped the Finnish album charts. This period of reflection and renewed energy culminated in a pivotal transformation in 2022 when Paavo Laapotti, a finalist from Voice of Finland, assumed lead vocal duties. Paavo’s rendition of the band’s classic "Deadsong" impressed founder Tuomas profoundly, inspiring a collaborative effort that evolved Before the Dawn’s signature style into what Tuomas calls an "upgraded version."

This revitalization bore fruit with the 2023 release of their latest album, "Stormbringers," which debuted at number one on Finland’s album charts. Marking a triumphant return, Before the Dawn now stands as a rejuvenated force in metal, skillfully expanding their legacy with a powerful blend of gothic and melodic death metal that continues to captivate fans worldwide.
