About Carmen Villain

Carmen Villain has emerged as a distinctive voice in contemporary music through her intuitive and exploratory approach to sound. Drawing on influences from dub’s deep, spacious rhythms, fourth world atmospheres inspired by artists like Jon Hassell, and the textured experimental energy of acts such as Sun City Girls and Huerco S., she crafts immersive soundscapes that blur the lines between memory and imagination. Her music weaves together field recordings, flutes, clarinets, and ethereal vocal layers, transformed into granular, richly textured compositions that evoke a sense of warmth and isolation simultaneously.

Her acclaimed album "Only Love From Now On" (2020) and the "Nutrition" EP showcase this unique sonic language, blending ambient textures with bass-heavy, hypnotic rhythms. Known for captivating live performances, Carmen Villain has performed at prominent venues and festivals including Berlin Atonal, Dekmantel, ICA London, and Mutek, where her atmospheric sets emphasize physical bass and cyclical transformation of sound.

Beyond her solo work, she extends her artistic vision to contemporary dance and sound installations, highlighted by a prestigious residency at IRCAM Paris. Her forthcoming album "Memoria" promises to deepen her exploration of spectral dub, inviting listeners into otherworldly realms where each melody resonates like a vibrant conversation with sound. Carmen Villain’s evolving body of work stands out as a singular fusion of ambient minimalism and organic improvisation, positioning her as a compelling force in modern experimental music.
