About SMO

John Lee Smith, professionally known as SMO, has emerged as a pioneering force in the fusion of country storytelling and trap-infused beats, effectively shaping the country rap genre. Hailing from Tennessee, SMO grew up immersed in a rich tapestry of musical influences, ranging from country legends like Jerry Reed and Johnny Cash to hip-hop icons such as the Beastie Boys and Vanilla Ice. This eclectic blend fueled his early passion for songwriting, poetry, and performing in bands.

Nicknamed SMO by childhood friends, he partnered with DJ Orig in the Kuntry Kitchen studio on his farm, where they crafted over five albums that seamlessly meld Southern charm with urban rhythms. This innovative sound caught the attention of major labels, culminating in SMO making history as the first country rap artist to be signed by Warner Nashville.

Beyond his music career, SMO expanded his reach into television, starring in and producing two seasons of the reality series *Big Smo* on A&E, which showcased his life and artistic journey. Continuing to captivate audiences, SMO tours extensively, performing fan favorites alongside tracks from his tenth studio album, *This One’s for You* (year unspecified). Additionally, he has chronicled his experiences in his autobiography, *The Book of Smo*, offering fans an intimate view into his evolution from a small-town dreamer to a multi-talented performer and television personality.

SMO’s seamless blend of genres and authentic storytelling secures his lasting influence in the music world, bridging traditional country roots with contemporary urban flair.
