About The Naked and Famous

The Naked and Famous are a New Zealand indie electronic band formed in 2008, fronted by vocalist Alisa Xayalith and multi-instrumentalist Thom Powers. Known for their infectious blend of ’80s-inspired synth-pop and post-punk energy, they burst onto the international stage with their debut album, "Passive Me, Aggressive You" (2010). This breakthrough featured the chart-topping single "Young Blood," which propelled them into a global spotlight and launched a worldwide tour exceeding 200 shows.

In 2012, the band relocated to Laurel Canyon, Los Angeles, to develop their sophomore album. Collaborating with acclaimed producers Alan Moulder and Justin Meldal-Johnson, they released "In Rolling Waves" (2013), showcasing hits like "Hearts Like Ours" and "I Kill Giants." The album demonstrated their evolving sound and earned critical acclaim, reaching number four in New Zealand and climbing to number 14 on Billboard’s Top Alternative Albums chart.

Following personal and professional changes, including the end of Xayalith and Powers’ romantic relationship and lineup shifts, The Naked and Famous unveiled "Simple Forms" (2016), a synth-driven yet emotionally charged record highlighted by the single "Higher." In 2018, they offered an acoustic reinterpretation of their work with the album "A Still Heart." Embracing their core as a duo by 2020, they released "Recover," co-produced by Simon Oscroft and featuring contributions from keyboardist Luna Shadows. Known for melodic anthems and dynamic live shows, The Naked and Famous remain influential and integral to the indie electronic music scene.
