About tombstone poetry

Tombstone Poetry is the alt-country and indie rock songwriting project spearheaded by North Carolina musician Caelan Burris. Born and bred in Asheville’s vibrant music scene, the project took shape in 2021, carving out a unique space where gritty country rock intersects with the raw textures of ’90s indie acts like Built to Spill and Guided by Voices. Tombstone Poetry’s sound is defined by emotionally charged, confessional lyrics layered over a blend of noise rock and melodic hooks.

The group’s lineup is fluid, frequently shifting to bring fresh energy to live performances, reflecting their DIY ethos fostered through relentless local shows and regional tours. This approach has helped Tombstone Poetry steadily cultivate a dedicated following within the contemporary independent music scene.

Their 2023 album, "How Could I Be So In Debt?", released in partnership with I’m Into Life and Trash Tape Records, showcases this evolution. The record captures a compelling mix of heartfelt storytelling and sonic experimentation, balancing vulnerability with restless energy. With this release, Tombstone Poetry stands out as one of the most authentic and exciting voices in today’s alt-country and indie rock fusion, seamlessly blending sweat, heartache, and a passion for honest songwriting.
