About Baxter Dury

Baxter Dury, born on December 17, 1971, in Wingrave, Buckinghamshire, England, is a distinguished British singer-songwriter renowned for his sharp wit and deadpan vocal delivery. The son of the iconic Ian Dury—whose album New Boots and Panties!! famously featured a young Baxter on its cover—he was immersed in a rich musical heritage from an early age. After a peripatetic youth marked by dropping out of school at 15 and traveling across Europe and America, Baxter launched his career with the 2001 EP Oscar Brown, followed by his acclaimed debut album Len Parrot's Memorial Lift in 2002. This record showcased his unique fusion of chamber pop and new wave influences, forming the foundation of his evolving sound.

Over the years, Baxter Dury has demonstrated versatility, blending disco rhythms on Prince of Tears (2017) and venturing into electronic dance music with the 2018 album B.E.D., produced in collaboration with French house pioneer Étienne de Crécy. His 2023 release, I Thought I Was Better Than You, marked a bold stylistic shift toward hip-hop, enriched by collaborations with vocalists such as Eska Mtungwazi, Madeline Hart, and JGrrey. Throughout his career, Baxter’s incisive lyrics and sophisticated arrangements paint sardonic portraits of privileged society while exploring themes of identity and personal turmoil. This enduring artistry has solidified Baxter Dury’s place as a compelling figure in contemporary British music.
