About Gorgoroth

Gorgoroth is a pioneering Norwegian black metal band formed in 1992 by guitarists Infernus and Tormentor. Drawing its name from J.R.R. Tolkien’s dark fantasy lore, the group quickly established a raw, uncompromising sound emblematic of the genre’s fiercest traditions. The band’s inaugural demo appeared in 1993, featuring original members Hat on vocals, Kjettar on bass, and Goat Pervertor on drums. Their official debut album, "Pentagram" (1994), was notable for contributions from Samoth of Emperor on bass and Frost of Satyricon handling drums, highlighting Gorgoroth’s close ties with Norway’s burgeoning black metal scene.

Following lineup shifts, vocalist Pest joined for the release of "Antichrist" (1996), which also featured Frost as a temporary drummer. The band continued evolving with "Under the Sign of Hell" (1997), incorporating bassist Ares and drummer Grim, both veterans of respected black metal outfits like Borknagar. Their growing international presence was solidified with "Destroyer" (1998), their first album under Nuclear Blast Records. The 2000 release "Incipit Satan" introduced powerful vocalist Gaahl, bassist King Ov Hell, and drummer Sgt. Erichsen, cementing Gorgoroth’s reputation as enduring icons of Norwegian black metal.

Despite numerous lineup changes, Gorgoroth has maintained an unwavering dedication to the raw intensity and dark atmospheres that define their sound. Their collaborations with key figures in the scene and consistent output have ensured their lasting influence within extreme metal worldwide.
