About Rex Orange County

Rex Orange County, the stage name of British singer-songwriter Alex O’Connor, has become a defining voice in contemporary indie music through his seamless fusion of bedroom pop, jazz, hip-hop, and soul. Born in 1998 and raised in the village of Grayshott, situated on the Hampshire-Surrey border, O’Connor’s musical journey began early. Inspired by iconic acts like Queen, Stevie Wonder, Green Day, and Weezer, he developed his skills as a self-taught drummer and pianist before refining his craft at London’s prestigious BRIT School.

In 2015, Rex Orange County burst onto the scene with his self-produced debut album, "bcos u will never b free," gaining viral attention for its introspective and quirky songwriting. His follow-up record, "Apricot Princess" (2017), further established his rising profile by breaking into Billboard’s Independent Albums Top Ten and featuring standout tracks such as "Sunflower" and "Best Friend." That year, a collaboration with Tyler, The Creator on the acclaimed album "Flower Boy" significantly expanded his audience and influence.

Rex Orange County’s 2019 album "PONY" marked a commercial breakthrough, blending ’70s singer-songwriter warmth with jazz-inflected arrangements and topping Billboard’s Rock and Alternative Albums charts. His 2022 release, "Who Cares?," produced in Amsterdam alongside Benny Sings and featuring Tyler, The Creator on "Open a Window," achieved number one positions in the UK and New Zealand while securing high chart placements internationally.

In 2024, Rex Orange County unveiled "The Alexander Technique," a candid and stripped-back album that addresses his lifelong struggles with mental health and chronic pain, showcasing his continued artistic growth and emotional vulnerability. Throughout his evolving career, Rex Orange County has remained celebrated for his honest lyricism and genre-defying sound, solidifying his place as a prominent figure in modern music.
