About Aphex Twin

Richard D. James, widely known as Aphex Twin, is a pioneering force in electronic music whose influence continues to shape the genre. Born in Ireland in 1971 and later based in Cornwall, UK, James is renowned for his inventive sound and elusive persona. Throughout his career, he has released music under various aliases, including Polygon Window, GAK, and Power-Pill, adding layers to his mystique. His playful yet enigmatic image is highlighted by unconventional stunts such as DJing with sandpaper and the haunting visuals of the "Come to Daddy" video.

Aphex Twin’s groundbreaking work spans multiple styles, notably ambient electronica and drill 'n' bass, helping define the intelligent dance music (IDM) movement. His seminal album "Selected Ambient Works 85-92" (1992) established him as a visionary, followed by critically acclaimed releases like "...I Care Because You Do" (1995) and "Richard D. James Album" (1996). The experimental "Drukqs" (2001), featuring the delicate piano piece "Avril 14th"—later famously sampled by Kanye West—marked a high point before he withdrew from the public eye for over a decade.

His 2014 comeback with "Syro" introduced richer textures and complex rhythms, reaffirming Aphex Twin's role as one of electronic music's most inventive and unpredictable innovators. Over the years, his work has inspired a broad spectrum of artists, including James Blake and Skrillex, underscoring his enduring impact on contemporary music.
