About Liquid Tension Experiment

Liquid Tension Experiment is a pioneering progressive rock supergroup formed in 1997, bringing together four of the genre’s most acclaimed virtuosos: Mike Portnoy (known for Transatlantic and Sons of Apollo), John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess (both from Dream Theater), and the legendary Tony Levin, famed for his work with King Crimson and Peter Gabriel. This exceptional line-up crafted an innovative fusion of progressive metal and instrumental rock that quickly captivated fans worldwide.

Their self-titled debut album, released in 1998, showcased a powerful blend of intricate compositions and high-energy performances. Building on that momentum, Liquid Tension Experiment followed up with their sophomore album, "LTE2" (1999), delivering equally sophisticated and frantic musical landscapes that solidified their reputation as masters of their craft. The extraordinary chemistry within the band eventually influenced Rudess’s permanent addition to Dream Theater, putting Liquid Tension Experiment on a temporary hiatus.

After years of eager anticipation, the group reunited during the global lockdown when their schedules aligned, resulting in the release of "Liquid Tension Experiment 3" (2021). This comeback offered fans a fresh testament to their signature blend of technical prowess and creative innovation. Renowned for pushing musical boundaries, Liquid Tension Experiment remains a standout force in modern progressive metal and instrumental rock, celebrated for their virtuosic musicianship and lasting impact on the genre.
