About Glenn Frey

Glenn Frey, born in Detroit in 1948 and raised in Royal Oak, Michigan, emerged as a pivotal figure in American rock music, best known as a founding member and co-lead vocalist of the Eagles. His passion for music ignited early, inspired by piano lessons and the Beatles’ groundbreaking 1964 performance, which led him to switch to guitar. Before relocating to California, Frey honed his craft with Detroit bands like the Mushrooms and collaborated with artists such as Bob Seger.

After moving to Los Angeles, Frey teamed up with John David Souther to form the country-rock duo Longbranch Pennywhistle, immersing himself in the burgeoning Southern California country-rock scene. In 1971, through his work with Linda Ronstadt’s backing band, he connected with Don Henley, Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon, culminating in the formation of the Eagles. As co-leader and principal songwriter, Frey co-wrote and sang lead on enduring hits including "Take It Easy," "Lyin’ Eyes," "New Kid in Town," and "Hotel California," contributing to the band’s multi-platinum albums and defining the country-rock genre throughout the 1970s.

Following the Eagles’ 1982 hiatus, Frey launched a successful solo career with chart-toppers like "The Heat Is On," featured in Beverly Hills Cop, and "You Belong to the City," which gained prominence through Miami Vice, where he also made guest appearances. Reuniting with the Eagles in 1994 for the Hell Freezes Over tour, Frey continued to tour and record until his health waned. His final solo album, *After Hours* (2012), showcased his enduring artistry before his passing in January 2016 at age 67. Glenn Frey’s legacy as a gifted songwriter and iconic voice remains integral to rock music history.
