About MJ Lenderman

MJ Lenderman, hailing from Asheville, North Carolina, emerged from humble beginnings to become a notable figure in contemporary indie rock. Before his breakthrough, Jake Lenderman, performing under the moniker MJ Lenderman, balanced self-booked tours, his role as guitarist in the band Wednesday, and a day job at an ice cream shop. The turning point came during the pandemic lockdown, when state unemployment benefits afforded him financial stability and unexpected free time. Immersed in reading, painting, and nightly jam sessions at his shared Asheville home, Lenderman cultivated a unique songwriting voice defined by sharp wit, sports references, and raw, winding guitar solos.

This creative period produced two key releases: the self-produced "Ghost of Your Guitar Solo" (2021), and the breakthrough album "Boat Songs" (2022), recorded affordably in a professional studio for around one thousand dollars. "Boat Songs" captivated critics and fans alike with its ramshackle charm and incisive humor, propelling Lenderman into the indie spotlight. Building on this success, he recorded "Manning Fireworks" during focused four-day sessions at Asheville’s Drop of Sun studio amid tour breaks, further solidifying his reputation as a compelling and authentic voice in modern rock. MJ Lenderman’s rise reflects the power of creative persistence and has positioned him as an artist to watch in the evolving indie music landscape.
