About Alan Parsons

Alan Parsons, born on December 20, 1948, in Britain, is a pioneering figure in progressive rock known for his dual mastery as a musician and an audio engineer. He began his illustrious career at EMI Studios, where his engineering work contributed to iconic albums such as the Beatles' “Abbey Road” (1969) and Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” (1973). This early success laid the foundation for his reputation as a visionary studio professional.

In 1975, Parsons co-founded the Alan Parsons Project with songwriter Eric Woolfson, crafting a distinctive sound that fused progressive rock with classical motifs, pop sensibilities, and innovative synthesizer textures. The Project became famous for its concept albums inspired by literary themes from authors like Edgar Allan Poe and Isaac Asimov. Landmark records including “I Robot” (1977), “The Turn of a Friendly Card” (1980), and the breakthrough “Eye in the Sky” (1982) — which climbed to number seven on the Billboard 200 — solidified their place in rock history. The hit title track “Eye in the Sky” remains a classic of the genre.

Beyond his own recordings, Parsons produced and engineered for a range of well-known artists, including Paul McCartney’s Wings, Al Stewart, Ambrosia, and Pilot. After the Alan Parsons Project disbanded in 1987, he pursued a solo career with albums like “The Time Machine” (1999), “A Valid Path” (2004), “The Secret” (2019), and “From the New World” (2022), collaborating with artists such as Joe Bonamassa and Tommy Shaw. His enduring impact on music and audio technology earned him thirteen Grammy nominations, culminating in a 2019 Grammy win for Best Immersive Audio Album, underscoring a career defined by both technical innovation and creative storytelling.
