About Birdy Nam Nam

Birdy Nam Nam is a pioneering French turntablism group formed in 2001 by four DJs—Crazy B, DJ Pone, Little Mike, and DJ Need—who originally came together from the larger collective Scratch Action Hiro. The quartet had already established their prowess by winning the 2000 DMC World DJ Team Championship as part of that crew, and quickly solidified their reputation by capturing the same title in 2002 under the Birdy Nam Nam name. Their distinctive moniker was inspired by a memorable line from Peter Sellers’ 1968 comedy film *The Party*.

Initially, Birdy Nam Nam’s sound was rooted entirely in innovative turntable techniques, blending jazzy undertones, funk grooves, and downtempo atmospherics. This approach was showcased on their self-titled debut album released in 2005 via the Uncivilized World label. However, with extensive touring, the group evolved towards a more vibrant, electro-infused style aimed squarely at the dancefloor. Their 2007 single "Trans Boulogne Express" exemplified this shift, introducing energetic, electronic textures without losing the core turntablism identity.

By the time their 2009 album "Manual for Successful Rioting" arrived, Birdy Nam Nam had broadened their sonic palette, integrating synth programming and live production alongside their trademark scratch techniques. This evolution helped cement their status as innovators within the global DJ and electronic music community, consistently pushing the boundaries of what turntablism could achieve while maintaining their unique artistic voice.
