About Joe Harvey-Whyte

Joe Harvey-Whyte is a pioneering pedal steel guitarist celebrated for his innovative contributions to contemporary music. Renowned for his versatile session work, he has collaborated with an impressive array of artists including Liam Gallagher, John Squire, James Vincent McMorrow, Aldous Harding, Susanne Sundfør, Billy Bragg, The Magic Numbers, Nilüfer Yanya, and legendary producer Tony Visconti, who famously described his sound as “outer space.” Through these collaborations, Harvey-Whyte has firmly established himself as a sought-after musician within diverse musical spheres from indie folk to alternative rock.

Beyond his session career, Joe Harvey-Whyte is a multidisciplinary artist whose solo work explores the intersections of ambient, experimental music, and environmental sound. His unique approach weaves the ethereal tones of pedal steel guitar with electronics and field recordings, creating immersive soundscapes that invite deep reflection and evoke a profound connection to everyday natural beauty.

In 2025, Harvey-Whyte released three notable collaborative albums that highlight his expansive musical range. *Langeleik* (2025), with Norwegian multi-instrumentalist Geir Sundstøl, merges ambient drones with vintage synth textures inspired by natural landscapes. *in a fugue state* (2025), created with tape loop specialist Paul Cousins, delves into distorted and time-warped drone atmospheres. Lastly, *Last Ride* (2025), a project with psych-country guitarist Bobby Lee, blends dusty, Paris, Texas-style instrumentals with elements of West Coast canyon rock, British folk, and kosmische new-age vibes. Additionally, Joe curates the popular radio shows *Whyte Noise* and *The Dream Stream* on Soho Radio, spotlighting cosmic country, acid folk, ambient, and drone music—further solidifying his reputation as a leading voice in modern pedal steel artistry.

Joe Harvey-Whyte remains a dynamic and forward-thinking musician whose work continues to push the boundaries of his instrument and captivate listeners worldwide.
