About Reggie Watts

Reggie Watts is a genre-defying performer renowned for blending comedy, music, and theatrical artistry into a distinctive and groundbreaking style. Born Reginald Lucien Frank Roger Watts in Germany and raised in Great Falls, Montana, he developed an early passion for performance. At eighteen, Watts moved to Seattle to study jazz at Cornish College of the Arts, immersing himself in the local music scene. There, he played keyboards with Wayne Horvitz’s 4+1 Ensemble and led the groove-driven band Maktub before launching his solo career in 2002.

Watts’ innovative performances combine human beatboxing, vocal looping, spoken word poetry, improvisational comedy, and rap, creating an experience that defies traditional categories. His debut album, "Simplified" (2003), revealed his neo-soul influences and showcased his musical depth. After relocating to Brooklyn in 2004, Watts became a key figure in underground comedy, collaborating with comedians Eugene Mirman and Bobby Tisdale on the avant-garde variety show "Invite Them Up."

His trailblazing approach earned him the Andy Kaufman Award and Seattle Mayor’s Arts Award in 2006. Continuing to expand his artistic horizons, Watts worked with playwright Tommy Smith and released the EP "Pot Cookies" (2008). His profile rose internationally following invited performances by Brian Eno at the Sydney Opera House’s Luminous Festival in 2010 and his Comedy Central special and accompanying CD/DVD "Why $#!+ So Crazy?," solidifying Reggie Watts as one of the most innovative and enduring crossover artists in contemporary entertainment.
