About Jewel

Jewel Kilcher, professionally known as Jewel, is an acclaimed American singer-songwriter who rose from humble beginnings to international stardom. Born in Payson, Utah in 1974, Jewel spent much of her childhood in Homer, Alaska, where she began performing with her father at local venues. After her parents’ divorce, she toured extensively with him, nurturing her early passion for music. She later refined her songwriting and vocal talents at Michigan’s Interlochen Fine Arts Academy.

Determined to pursue a music career, Jewel moved to San Diego and embraced a gritty, grassroots approach—living in a van while playing small venues to build a loyal fanbase. This perseverance earned her a recording contract with Atlantic Records, leading to the 1995 release of her debut album, "Pieces of You." Though initially slow to gain attention, the album eventually became one of the best-selling debuts in history, earning 12-times platinum certification. Its hit singles, including "Who Will Save Your Soul," "You Were Meant for Me," and "Foolish Games," showcased her introspective folk-pop style, resonating deeply with audiences.

Throughout her career, Jewel has demonstrated impressive versatility. She ventured into poetic and string-driven work with "Night Without Armor" and "Spirit" (1998), explored holiday music and spoken word, and experimented with dance-pop, notably on the album "0304" (2003) featuring the hit "Intuition." Later, she returned to her folk roots and embraced country music with albums like "Perfectly Clear" (2008) and "Sweet & Wild" (2010). Beyond recording, Jewel gained wider recognition as a judge on the TV show "The Sing-Off" and authored two autobiographies, including "Never Broken" (2015), which accompanied her heartfelt album "Picking Up the Pieces."

Jewel’s enduring appeal lies in her authentic storytelling and ability to reinvent herself, making her a distinctive and influential figure in contemporary music.
