About Lil Tjay

Lil Tjay, born Tione Jayden Merritt in the Bronx, New York, quickly rose from a challenging youth marked by a robbery-related incarceration to become a prominent voice in the city’s drill scene. While serving time, he found solace and motivation in writing lyrics, which laid the foundation for his future career. After his release in 2017, the then-teenager began sharing his music online, where his debut solo track "Resume" rapidly gained over 14 million streams, signaling the emergence of a fresh talent.

Building on this momentum, Lil Tjay released viral hits like "Brothers," "Goat," and "Leaked," which helped him secure a deal with Columbia Records. His initial projects under the label included the EPs "No Comparison" (2018) and "F.N" (2019), the latter featuring notable collaborations such as "Ruthless" with Jay Critch. His debut album, "True 2 Myself" (2019), was both a commercial and critical success, achieving gold certification and reaching the Billboard top five, bolstered by tracks like "Hold On."

Continuing his evolution beyond drill, Lil Tjay’s 2020 EP "State of Emergency" showcased his versatility, including the Top 40 single "Zoo York" with Fivio Foreign and Pop Smoke. He further diversified his sound with R&B influences on singles like "None of Your Love" and achieved his highest Billboard ranking with the melodic trap hit "Calling My Phone," featuring 6LACK, which peaked at number three. His sophomore album, "Destined 2 Win" (2021), cemented his mainstream appeal, featuring collaborations with Polo G, Offset, and Saweetie. Tracks like "Not in the Mood," alongside Fivio Foreign and Kay Flock, underscored Lil Tjay’s integral role in shaping contemporary hip-hop’s dynamic landscape.
