About Satyricon

Emerging from Oslo’s burgeoning black metal scene in 1991, Satyricon quickly rose to prominence as pioneers of the genre’s second wave. Founded by vocalist and chief songwriter Satyr alongside drummer Frost, the duo established a reputation for relentless artistic evolution and a refusal to conform to traditional black metal norms. Early albums like "Dark Medieval Times" (1993) and "The Shadowthrone" (1994) played critical roles in shaping the sound and spirit of Norwegian black metal. Their landmark release, "Nemesis Divina" (1996), remains a genre-defining masterpiece, influencing countless bands and securing their place in metal history.

Breaking from orthodox black metal, Satyricon embraced experimentation with the industrial-infused "Rebel Extravaganza" (1999), which showcased their willingness to push boundaries. This adventurous spirit continued with later works such as the stripped-back intensity of "Now, Diabolical" (2006) and the dark, atmospheric "The Age of Nero" (2008). Their 2013 self-titled album further cemented their status as one of modern metal’s most innovative forces, praised for both studio craftsmanship and commanding live performances. Continuing their exploration of profound and often spiritual themes, the 2017 release "Deep Calleth Upon Deep" reflects Satyricon’s enduring commitment to expanding the expressive potential of extreme music. With a career spanning over three decades, Satyricon remains a vital and influential force within the metal world.
