About Blind Guardian

Blind Guardian, originating from the small German town of Krefeld, stands as a pioneering force in European power metal, seamlessly blending gothic and fantasy themes with the blistering speed and technical finesse of speed metal. Formed in the mid-1980s, the band—comprising vocalist and bassist Hansi Kürsch, guitarists Marcus Siepen and André Olbrich, and drummer Thomen Stauch—initially performed under the name Lucifer’s Heritage. They adopted the name Blind Guardian following the underground success of their 1986 demo.

Their debut album, "Battalions of Fear" (1988), laid the foundation for their distinctive style, quickly followed by "Follow the Blind" (1989), which helped them gain traction in Japan's metal scene. The 1990 release "Tales from the Twilight World" marked a major breakthrough in Germany and secured a deal with Virgin Records. Their first major-label album, "Somewhere Far Beyond" (1992), along with the live album "Tokyo Tales" (1993), expanded their international presence.

Blind Guardian’s collaboration with former Metallica producer Flemming Rasmussen resulted in "Imaginations from the Other Side" (1995), a critically acclaimed album that set the stage for their ambitious, Tolkien-inspired concept album "Nightfall in Middle-Earth" (1998), which introduced them to American audiences. Over the next decades, the band solidified their legacy with landmark releases including "A Night at the Opera" (2002), "A Twist in the Myth" (2006), "At the Edge of Time" (2010), and the conceptual sequel "Beyond the Red Mirror" (2015). The 2012 compilation "Memories of a Time to Come" showcased re-recorded and remixed classics, underscoring Blind Guardian’s continuing impact on the power metal genre worldwide.
