About Flore Benguigui & The Sensible Notes

Flore Benguigui & The Sensible Notes breathe new life into jazz by reimagining 1930s swing with a vibrant, modern twist. Leading the ensemble, Flore Benguigui blends vintage aesthetics with playful spontaneity, infusing their sound with the warm textures of 1970s analog synthesizers. This unique fusion was honed during her remarkable eleven-year residency at Paris’s iconic Le Baiser Salé, a legendary jazz club where she and her longtime collaborators—Pierre-François Maurin on double bass, Charles Tois on piano, and Maxime Mary on drums—crafted performances filled with wit, improvisation, and joyful experimentation.

Previously recognized as the vocalist for the popular French band L’Impératrice, Benguigui returned to her first musical love: jazz. With The Sensible Notes, she dismantles the genre’s elitist stereotypes, turning each concert into an engaging, collective playground of sound. The group frequently welcomes guest musicians, making every show an immersive celebration of emotion, connection, and freedom. Their music honors the swing era’s rhythmic vitality while embracing fresh, analog-driven sounds, positioning Flore Benguigui & The Sensible Notes as innovators who keep jazz dynamic and accessible for contemporary audiences. Whether through lively improvisations or infectious energy, this ensemble proves that jazz thrives through movement, humor, and unbridled joy.
