About Friendly Fires

Friendly Fires is an English indie rock and dance trio hailing from St. Albans, Hertfordshire, formed by childhood friends Ed Macfarlane (vocals, keyboards), Edd Gibson (guitar), and Jack Savidge (drums). Originally playing post-hardcore under the name First Day Back, the band reinvented their sound in the mid-2000s, drawing inspiration from artists like Prince, Carl Craig, and the Kompakt label to blend infectious indie melodies with dance rhythms and shoegaze textures.

Their breakthrough arrived with the 2008 self-titled debut album, which featured standout singles such as "Paris," "Skeleton Boy," and "Jump in the Pool." This release earned critical acclaim, a Mercury Prize nomination, and double gold certification in the UK, helped by their reputation for electrifying live performances. Friendly Fires refined their sound further on their sophomore album, "Pala" (2011), collaborating with respected producers Paul Epworth and Chris Zane to craft a more polished and expansive record.

Following an extended hiatus, during which Macfarlane explored electronic landscapes through collaborations with Disclosure and the experimental project The Pattern Forms, Friendly Fires made a vibrant return in 2019. Their third album, "Inflorescent," featured tropical pop-infused singles like "Love Like Waves" and the Disclosure-produced "Heaven Let Me In," reaffirming their unique ability to seamlessly merge indie rock sensibilities with dance music's infectious energy. Over the years, Friendly Fires have maintained their relevance by evolving alongside changing musical trends while staying true to their signature sound.
