About Josienne Clarke

British folk singer-songwriter Josienne Clarke has carved out a distinctive space in contemporary folk music with her evocative vocals and delicate guitar work that blend melancholy and emotional depth. Born in the UK, Clarke’s early musical promise was evident when she joined the Brighton Festival Choir at sixteen. After attempting three classical music degrees, she relocated to London in the mid-2000s, immersing herself in the city’s vibrant open-mic scene. A turning point came in 2009 when she met guitarist Ben Walker, forming the acclaimed duo Josienne Clarke & Ben Walker. Together, they released four albums, including "Overnight" (2016) and "Seedlings All" (2018) on Rough Trade Records, celebrated for their intimate storytelling and chamber folk textures.

Seeking a return to a more stripped-back and traditional folk sound, Clarke moved to Scotland and began a solo career. There, she joined the folk collective PicaPica, collaborating with musicians like Samantha Whates, Adam Beattie, and Sonny Johns. Her 2019 solo debut, "In All Weather," marked a refined artistic evolution, incorporating elements of jazz and experimental music. The album features contributions from notable artists such as pianist Elliot Galvin, jazz drummer Dave Hamblett, and Scottish harpist Mary Ann Kennedy. Throughout her career, Josienne Clarke’s music stands out for its haunting atmosphere, understated arrangements, and an enduring emotional resonance that continues to captivate folk audiences worldwide.
