About 50 Cent

Curtis James Jackson III, known worldwide as 50 Cent, rose from the challenging streets of Southside Jamaica, Queens, New York, to become one of hip-hop’s most influential figures. Born on July 6, 1975, he faced early hardship after losing his mother at age eight and being raised by his grandmother. In his teens, 50 Cent became involved in the drug trade, but by the mid-1990s, he shifted his focus to music, inspired and supported by Jam Master Jay of Run-D.M.C., who signed him to JMJ Records in 1996.

His debut album, *Power of the Dollar*, recorded under Columbia Records with the Trackmasters, featured the provocative single "How to Rob," which sparked underground buzz. However, a near-fatal shooting in 2000 left him wounded nine times and stalled his career, leading Columbia to drop him. Undeterred, 50 Cent rebuilt his reputation through mixtapes and the G-Unit collective—featuring Lloyd Banks and Tony Yayo. His relentless grind caught the attention of Eminem and Dr. Dre, who signed him to Shady/Aftermath Records.

The collaboration birthed the explosive debut *Get Rich or Die Tryin'* (2003), propelled by iconic hits like "In da Club" and "21 Questions," solidifying 50 Cent’s crossover appeal. He followed with *The Massacre* (2005), delivering chart-toppers such as "Candy Shop." As a mogul, he expanded into film, video games, and television, notably producing the hit series *Power*. Despite criticisms over his pop-leaning third album *Curtis* (2007) and declaring bankruptcy in 2015, 50 Cent’s legacy endures, blending street authenticity with mainstream success and diverse entrepreneurial ventures in music and entertainment.
