About Feist

Leslie Feist, known professionally as Feist, is a celebrated Canadian singer-songwriter renowned for her distinctive voice and an eclectic blend of indie rock, jazz-pop, bossa nova, and folk influences. Born in Amherst, Nova Scotia, in 1976, Feist began her musical journey in the early 1990s as part of Calgary’s punk band Placebo. After vocal cord damage, she relocated to Toronto, where she shifted toward a softer, more nuanced songwriting style.

Feist first gained wider attention through collaborations with electronic artist Peaches and as a key contributor to the acclaimed Canadian collective Broken Social Scene, particularly on their 2002 album "You Forgot It in People." Her breakthrough solo success arrived with the critically praised 2004 album "Let It Die," recorded in Paris with producers Chilly Gonzales and Renaud Letang. The album featured "Mushaboom," a track that became widely licensed and earned her a Juno Award for Best Alternative Album.

Her international profile soared with 2007’s "The Reminder," driven by the infectious single "1234." This song gained global recognition after featuring in a major iPod commercial and helped the album achieve multi-platinum status in Canada and top ten chart positions in the U.S. and the UK. Rather than pursuing mainstream pop stardom, Feist embraced artistic evolution in later works, exploring deeper moods and experimental sounds on albums like the atmospheric "Metals" (2011), blues-infused "Pleasure" (2017), and the introspective, art-rock inspired "Multitudes" (2023). Alongside her solo career, Feist has collaborated with notable artists such as Wilco and Beck, maintaining her status as a respected innovator in the indie music scene.
