About Raul Seixas

Raul Seixas, widely regarded as the pioneer of Brazilian rock, was a Salvador-born singer, songwriter, and producer whose influential career spanned over 26 years and included seventeen albums. He carved out a distinctive sound by seamlessly blending traditional rock with baião rhythms, creating music that was both rebellious and infused with mysticism. His 1974 breakthrough album, "Gita," stands out as a landmark work, reflecting his fascination with philosophy, metaphysics, and the occult, notably drawing inspiration from British occultist Aleister Crowley. This album also introduced Brazilian audiences to the concept of the "Sociedade Alternativa" (Alternative Society), a recurring theme in his lyrics.

Raul Seixas’s agnostic yet deeply intellectual worldview was evident in his thoughtful songwriting, which incorporated elements of psychology, history, literature, and Latin studies. His success extended well into the 1980s with critically and commercially acclaimed albums such as "Abre-te Sésamo" (1980), the self-titled "Raul Seixas" (1983), "Uah-Bap-Lu-Bap-Lah-Béin-Bum!" (1987), and the collaborative "A Panela do Diabo" (1989), recorded with fellow Bahian artist Marcelo Nova. Today, Raul Seixas remains an enduring cultural icon in Brazil’s rock scene, with posthumous releases and the ongoing popularity of his music securing his legacy among new generations of fans worldwide.
