Lacuna Coil, the renowned Italian gothic metal band formed in Milan in 1994, has established a lasting legacy within the heavy music scene through nearly three decades of evocative and atmospheric soundscapes. Spearheaded by founding songwriter Marco “Maki” Coti Zelati, the band skillfully blends gothic ambiance with metal intensity, creating albums that serve as immersive snapshots of particular eras and moods. The creative process for *Sleepless Empire* gained significant momentum following the 2022 launch of *Comalies XX*, a celebrated 20th-anniversary reinterpretation of their landmark 2002 album *Comalies*. This retrospective project helped reconnect Lacuna Coil with their roots while forging a path forward as they enter their fourth decade of musical innovation. Notably, *Sleepless Empire* includes collaborations with distinguished artists such as Ash Costello of New Years Day on "In The Mean Time" and Randy Blythe from Lamb of God, who delivers a fiery guest performance on "Hosting the Shadow."
