About Capitão Fausto

Emerging from Lisbon’s vibrant music scene in 2009, Capitão Fausto has established itself as a defining force in contemporary Portuguese music. Founded by Tomás Wallenstein, Domingos Coimbra, Manuel Palha, Salvador Seabra, and Francisco Ferreira, the band quickly gained attention with their debut album, *Gazela* (2011), known for its raw energy and impulsive spirit. Over time, their sound matured into a sophisticated blend of melodic richness and creative experimentation.

Capitão Fausto’s evolving artistry is evident across five studio albums. Following *Gazela*, they released the ambitious *Pesar o Sol* (2014), and in 2016, they garnered critical acclaim with *Capitão Fausto Têm os Dias Contados*. Their fourth album, *A Invenção do Dia Claro* (2019), recorded in São Paulo, features standout tracks like "Amor, a Nossa Vida" and "Boa Memória," showcasing their ability to merge lyrical depth with captivating rhythms.

Their latest release, *Subida Infinita* (2023), marks a poignant milestone, unveiled through their own label and artistic collective, Cuca Monga, which they co-founded to foster independent Portuguese talent. This ten-track album, enriched by collaborations such as “Cantiga Infinita” with Brazilian artist Tim Bernardes, reflects the emotional and creative challenges of recent years. It also serves as the final contribution of Francisco Ferreira, who departed the band in early 2024.

With a career defined by reinvention and boundary-pushing innovation, Capitão Fausto continues to be a vital architect of Portugal’s modern musical landscape.
