Missy Elliott, born Melissa Arnette Elliott in Portsmouth, Virginia, in 1971, is a pioneering artist whose influence has reshaped hip-hop and R&B for over three decades. She began her career in the early 1990s as part of the Swing Mob collective, signed by DeVante Swing to an Elektra-affiliated label. Her early partnership with producer Timbaland proved transformative, notably contributing to Aaliyah’s acclaimed *One in a Million* (1996) album.
