About Juana Molina

Juana Molina is a celebrated Argentine singer-songwriter renowned for her inventive blend of folk, electronica, and experimental pop. Born into an artistic family—her father, Horacio Molina, was a tango singer, and her mother, Elva "Chunchuna" Villafañe, an actress—Juana started playing guitar at the tender age of five and even recorded a hit single with her father as a child. During her family’s exile in Paris in the late 1970s, fleeing Argentina's military dictatorship, she absorbed French cultural influences that would later shape her unique sound.

Initially gaining fame as a beloved comedian in Argentina during the 1990s with the popular TV show "Juana y sus hermanas," Molina made a surprising career shift in 1994, leaving comedy behind to focus on music. Her debut album, "Rara" (1996), was met with skepticism in Argentina but found a more welcoming audience after she relocated to Los Angeles. There, Molina refined her signature style, combining intimate acoustic melodies with layered electronic textures on acclaimed albums such as "Segundo" (2000), "Tres Cosas" (2004), and "Un Día" (2008).

Her 2017 release, "Halo," partly recorded at Texas’ Sonic Ranch Studios, received praise for its hypnotic fusion of organic songwriting and quirky electronic experimentation. Demonstrating versatility, Molina delivered a memorable improvised set at Denmark’s Roskilde Festival, despite technical setbacks. Continuing to push boundaries, she released the punk-infused EP "Forfun" (2019) and the innovative "Exhalo" (2024), featuring unreleased tracks from the "Halo" sessions. Throughout her career, Juana Molina has emerged as a pioneering force in contemporary music, blending theatrical roots with forward-thinking folktronica that captivates audiences worldwide.
