About Mikel Erentxun

Mikel Erentxun, born in Caracas, Venezuela, relocated with his family to San Sebastian, Spain, as an infant, where he has lived ever since. His musical career took root in 1978 with the formation of the Hillbilly Cats, a local rockabilly band acclaimed for their spirited renditions of classics like Carl Perkins' "Blue Suede Shoes." Throughout his youth, Erentxun became a fixture in San Sebastian’s lively music scene, honing his skills on rhythm guitar and bass while playing with various rockabilly groups.

In 1984, while studying architecture, Erentxun co-founded the influential band Duncan Dhu and took on the role of lead vocalist. The band’s grassroots efforts—playing in local bars and releasing singles—caught the attention of independent label Grabaciones Accidentales. After featuring two tracks on the compilation "La Única Alternativa," Duncan Dhu made their official debut with "Por Tierras Escocesas" (1985), launching them into nationwide recognition.

After nearly a decade with Duncan Dhu, Mikel Erentxun embarked on his solo career with the album "Naufragios" (1992), initially echoing the band’s melodic rock style. Over the years, his sound has evolved, integrating experimental and electronic elements, especially from the late 1990s onwards. With multiple solo albums to his name, Erentxun remains a pivotal figure in Spanish rock, celebrated for both his enduring artistic innovation and his influential presence in the country’s music landscape.
