About Khalid

Khalid Robinson, known simply as Khalid, is a soulful singer-songwriter who rose to international fame with his emotionally resonant blend of R&B and synth-pop. Born into a military family, Khalid’s childhood was marked by frequent moves across Georgia, Kentucky, upstate New York, and Heidelberg, Germany, before he eventually settled in El Paso, Texas. This nomadic upbringing often left him feeling like an outsider—a theme that deeply influenced his songwriting.

Khalid’s breakthrough came in 2016 with his debut single, "Location," recorded during his senior year spring break. The track quickly became a hit, selling over five million copies in the U.S. and establishing him as a fresh voice in contemporary music. Following this success, his debut album, "American Teen" (2017), earned five Grammy nominations by capturing the bittersweet realities of adolescence through smooth, atmospheric sounds.

Throughout his career, Khalid has collaborated with top artists such as Logic on the powerful anthem "1-800-273-8255," Calvin Harris on the dance-infused "Rollin," and Normani on the sultry hit "Love Lies." His 2018 EP, "Suncity," opens with an audio clip of him receiving the keys to El Paso, symbolizing his deep bond with his hometown. Continuing to evolve artistically, Khalid released "Free Spirit" (2019), an album exploring personal growth, mental health, and emotional honesty.
