About Calexico

Calexico, the acclaimed indie rock duo formed in Tucson, Arizona in 1996, has become a pioneering force in blending alternative country, post-rock, and Latin American sounds. Founded by Joey Burns and John Convertino, the band draws deep inspiration from the culture and landscapes of the American Southwest, crafting music that feels like a vibrant homage to the desert borderlands. Over more than two decades, Calexico’s distinctive fusion of rock, blues, and Southwestern musical traditions has earned them a dedicated following and critical acclaim.

In 2022, Calexico released their tenth studio album, "El Mirador," recorded in the summer of 2021 at longtime collaborator Sergio Mendoza’s Tucson home studio. Despite Burns relocating to Boise and Convertino moving to El Paso, the duo’s creative synergy remained unbroken. "El Mirador" serves as a heartfelt love letter to family, community, and the borderlands that shaped their sound, emerging as a kaleidoscopic beacon of hope and resilience amid the challenges of the pandemic. Joey Burns describes the album as a reflection on connectivity and inclusiveness, themes central to Calexico’s enduring appeal.

With a rich catalog and collaborative spirit, Calexico continues to captivate audiences worldwide, solidifying their legacy as one of the most innovative acts within American indie and alternative music.
