About Still House Plants

Still House Plants is an experimental British rock trio that emerged from Glasgow’s School of Art in 2013. The band was formed by David Kennedy, Jess Hickie-Kallenbach, and Finlay Clark, who bonded over a shared musical vision during their studies. Initially performing as Your Hair Cut, they soon adopted the name Still House Plants, inspired by their debut gig titled "singing for our house plants" and New York’s influential collective, Still House Group.

The trio’s distinctive sound is defined by Hickie-Kallenbach’s haunting, warped vocals, Clark’s fragmented guitar lines, and Kennedy’s persistent, rhythmically insistent drumming. Their early recordings surfaced with a self-titled EP in 2016 on Glasgow’s GLARC cassette label, featuring intimate, sparse ballads like "Warm in the Car" and "Obi/Lowe’s." This was followed by the *Assemblages* EP (2017) and their debut full-length album, *Long Play* (2018), released via Bison Records.

After an influential residency at London’s Café OTO, Still House Plants infused jazz elements and deeper vocal textures into their sophomore album, *Fast Edit* (2020). Their third studio album, *If I Don’t Make It, I Love U* (2024), marked a significant evolution—offering a more refined and vital sound. This release also broke from their signature monochrome visuals with a bold orange cover symbolized by the number “3,” reflecting the band’s continual artistic growth and rising critical acclaim.

Still House Plants remain a compelling force in the experimental rock scene, blending art school sensibilities with boundary-pushing sonic exploration.
