About Münchener Freiheit

Münchener Freiheit is a German pop band formed in Munich in 1980, originally consisting of vocalist and keyboardist Stefan Zauner, guitarist and vocalist Aron Strobel, bassist Michael Kunzi, drummer Rennie Hatzke, and keyboardist Alex Grünwald. The group began their recording journey with the album "Umsteiger" (1982), followed by "Licht" (1983) and "Herzschlag Einer Stadt" (1984). Their breakthrough came with the 1986 release "Von Anfang An," featuring hits such as "Ohne Dich (Schlaf' Ich Heut' Nacht Nicht Ein)" and "Tausendmal Du," which cemented their status in Germany’s pop music scene.

Münchener Freiheit expanded their reach internationally with the English-language single "Keeping the Dream Alive," which reached the UK Top 15 and gained wider recognition through its inclusion in Cameron Crowe’s film *Say Anything*. Although they did not achieve major chart success in the United States, this exposure highlighted their appeal beyond German-speaking audiences. Over the decades, the band has demonstrated remarkable longevity, continuing to produce music well into the 21st century, including their seventeenth studio album, "XVII" (2007). Through a blend of melodic pop soundscapes and emotive lyrics, Münchener Freiheit remains a significant force in German pop music, admired for their consistent creativity and enduring fanbase.
