About Jeff Mills

Jeff Mills is a seminal figure in American techno, hailing from Detroit and regarded alongside pioneers like Robert Hood and Carl Craig. Emerging in the late 1980s as a founding member of the influential collective Underground Resistance, Mills helped shape the group’s militant and fiercely independent ethos. Collaborating with "Mad" Mike Banks and Robert Hood, he contributed to groundbreaking releases such as "The Punisher" and "Seawolf," which remain cornerstones of techno’s evolution.

After parting ways with Underground Resistance in the early 1990s, Mills moved to New York and Chicago, where he elevated his solo career with residencies at iconic clubs like Limelight and releases on leading labels including Tresor and his own Axis imprint. His prolific 1990s output features the acclaimed *Waveform Transmissions* series and the techno anthem "The Bells," which solidified his global reputation.

Mills’ artistic vision extends beyond the dancefloor, blending electronic sounds with ambient and classical influences. He composed innovative orchestral scores for silent film classics such as Fritz Lang’s *Metropolis* (2000) and Buster Keaton’s *Three Ages*, collaborating with ensembles like the Montpellier Philharmonic and Orquestra Sinfónica do Porto Casa da Música. His long-running conceptual saga *The Sleeper Wakes* — with albums like *The Sleeper Wakes* (2009), *The Messenger* (2012), and *Free Fall Galaxy* (2016) — explores futuristic and sci-fi themes, showcasing his evolution as a visionary artist.
