About Alexandre Pires

Alexandre Pires, born Alexandre Pires do Nascimento, is a renowned Brazilian singer-songwriter whose career began in the late 1980s as the lead vocalist of the band Só Pra Contrariar. The group quickly rose to prominence with their 1993 self-titled debut album, capturing the hearts of Brazilian audiences with infectious pagode rhythms and romantic lyrics. By 1997, Só Pra Contrariar had cemented their status in Brazilian popular music with hits like "Depois do Prazer" and "Mineirinho," showcasing Alexandre's smooth, emotive voice.

In 1999, seeking to reach a broader Latin audience, Alexandre and the band released the Spanish-language album "Juegos de Amor," which included the memorable duet "Santo Santo" alongside Grammy-winning star Gloria Estefan. This collaboration not only expanded their international appeal but also earned them the prestigious Ondas Award, highlighting their influence across Latin America.

Building on his success with Só Pra Contrariar, Alexandre Pires launched his solo career in 2001 with a debut album released simultaneously in the United States and Latin America. His solo work further emphasized his unique blend of Brazilian pagode and Latin pop, earning him acclaim and multiple awards, including Latin Grammy and Multishow Brazilian Music Awards.
