About Joe Armon-Jones

Joe Armon-Jones is a defining figure in London’s vibrant jazz, R&B, and hip-hop scenes, celebrated for his versatile talents as a keyboardist, composer, and producer. Born into a musical family—his mother a singer and father a pianist—he began playing piano at the age of five, drawing early inspiration from jazz legends like Ahmad Jamal, Oscar Peterson, and Nina Simone, while later incorporating the grooves of Patrice Rushen, J Dilla, and Herbie Hancock into his style. After graduating with honors from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in 2016, Armon-Jones quickly rose to prominence.

As a founding member of the award-winning Ezra Collective, he has been instrumental in blending modern jazz-funk, Afrobeat, and hip-hop, contributing to their acclaimed album "You Can’t Steal My Joy" (2019). Parallel to his work with the band, Joe cultivated a dynamic solo career, releasing the "Idiom" EP (2017) featuring Maxwell Owin and Oscar Jerome, followed by his debut album "Starting Today" (2018) on Gilles Peterson’s Brownswood Records. This album highlighted collaborations with artists such as Ego Ella May and Moses Boyd. His 2019 album "Turn to Clear View" showcased further genre-defying explorations and partnerships with Georgia Anne Muldrow and Obongjayar.

Known for electrifying live performances and inventive productions, Joe Armon-Jones continues to shape the sound of contemporary British jazz, standing out as an innovative force pushing the genre’s boundaries through rich collaboration and a distinctive melodic touch.
