About JPEGMAFIA

JPEGMAFIA, born Barrington DeVaughn Hendricks in New York City to Jamaican parents, is a boundary-pushing artist known for his fiercely original blend of alternative and hardcore hip-hop. Raised amid frequent moves, he spent much of his youth in Brooklyn before relocating to the American South as a teenager, where he faced racism firsthand—experiences that deeply shaped his worldview and lyrical content. After graduating high school, he enlisted in the United States military, serving in the Iraq War. This chapter of his life added a profound layer of complexity to his music, influencing his intense and often satirical narratives.

Affectionately called "Peggy" by fans, JPEGMAFIA is a true DIY creative force, writing, recording, producing, mixing, and mastering all of his work independently. His sound defies easy categorization, combining dark and abrasive beats with sharp, sometimes uncomfortable humor. His music oscillates between nihilism, satire, and fierce cultural commentary, establishing him as one of contemporary hip-hop’s most uncompromising voices.

Emerging from underground acclaim, JPEGMAFIA gained wider recognition through albums like "Veteran" (2018) and "All My Heroes Are Cornballs" (2019).
