About Tarja

Tarja Turunen is a Finnish soprano whose groundbreaking fusion of operatic vocals and heavy metal transformed the music landscape. Born in 1977, Tarja first rose to international fame as the co-founder and lead singer of Nightwish, a symphonic metal band she helped shape into a global phenomenon. Her powerful soprano voice became the defining element in creating a new genre that combines classical grandeur with metal intensity, inspiring countless artists worldwide.

After her departure from Nightwish in 2005, Tarja launched a solo career that highlights her artistic versatility. Her rock-oriented albums—"My Winter Storm" (2007), "What Lies Beneath" (2010), "Colours in the Dark" (2013), "The Shadow Self" (2016), and "In the Raw" (2019)—seamlessly blend classical influences with contemporary rock. Complementing these, she has released classical projects such as "Ave Maria – En Plein Air" (2015) and evocative holiday records like "From Spirits and Ghosts (Score for a Dark Christmas)".

Tarja’s collaborations with renowned musicians including Scorpions, Mike Oldfield, Schiller, and Within Temptation underscore her broad musical reach. Celebrated for captivating live performances, she has also documented her stage presence through live albums like "Act 1 (Live)" and "Act II". Beyond music, her 2021 autobiography, "Singing in My Blood," offers an intimate look at her creative journey. Continually evolving, Tarja has ventured into electronic music with the project Outlanders alongside Torsten Stenzel, solidifying her status as a pioneering and enduring figure in modern music.
