About UB40

UB40 is a trailblazing English reggae and pop band formed in Birmingham in December 1978. Renowned for their unique sound, UB40’s lineup reflects a rich cultural mosaic, with members of English, Irish, Jamaican, Scottish, and Yemeni heritage contributing to their distinctive blend of reggae rhythms and pop melodies. Over the decades, the band has achieved remarkable commercial success, selling over 100 million records worldwide and placing more than 50 singles on the UK Singles Chart, making them one of Britain’s most influential musical exports.

Their career is marked not only by commercial feats but also by critical acclaim, including four Grammy nominations for Best Reggae Album and a 1984 Brit Award nomination for Best British Group. UB40’s ability to fuse reggae with accessible pop sensibilities helped bring the genre into mainstream audiences internationally.

Demonstrating their enduring relevance and connection to their hometown, UB40 released "Champion," the official anthem for the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham.
