About 서태지

Seo Taiji, born Jeong Hyeon-Cheol on February 21, 1972, is a legendary figure who transformed the South Korean music scene. Launching his career at just 17 with the heavy metal band Sinawe in 1990, he quickly gained attention for his musical talents. However, it was the formation of Seo Taiji & Boys in 1991 that truly revolutionized Korean pop music. The trio’s innovative fusion of dance-pop with rock and metal, combined with their provocative, anti-establishment lyrics, sparked a cultural shift that resonated deeply with Korean youth. Over five years, they released four studio albums and two live records, evolving from catchy pop tunes to complex, boundary-pushing rock sounds.

After the group disbanded in 1996, Seo Taiji took a brief hiatus before returning as a solo artist with his self-titled debut album in 1998. This comeback was met with massive acclaim, reaffirming his status as a dominant force in Korean music. His follow-up albums, including "Ultramania" (2000) and "7th Issue" (2004), showcased his continual evolution and cemented his role as a pioneer of the K-rock genre. Known as a multi-instrumentalist and producer, Seo Taiji’s work earned him numerous accolades, including multiple MAMA Awards. His lasting influence not only shaped modern K-pop and K-rock but also inspired generations of artists to challenge musical and cultural norms.
