About Andrea Bocelli

Andrea Bocelli, born in 1958 in the Tuscan village of Lajatico, is renowned as "the fourth tenor" for his unique ability to bridge classical opera and popular music. Blinded completely at age 12 due to a soccer accident compounded by congenital glaucoma, Bocelli overcame these challenges to become one of the most beloved voices worldwide. He began his musical journey early, mastering piano, flute, and saxophone, and later earned a law degree from the University of Pisa. Briefly working as a lawyer, he funded his vocal studies with the legendary tenor Franco Corelli.

Bocelli’s international breakthrough came in 1992 when he auditioned for Zucchero Fornaciari’s demo of "Miserere," leading to a landmark duet with Luciano Pavarotti. His early albums, including "Andrea Bocelli" (1994) and "Bocelli" (1996), showcased his operatic talent, while the 1997 album "Romanza" propelled him to global stardom. Featuring the timeless duet "Time to Say Goodbye" with Sarah Brightman, it remains one of the best-selling albums worldwide. His 1999 release "Sogno" included the Grammy-nominated "The Prayer," performed with Celine Dion, selling over ten million copies and winning a Golden Globe.

Throughout his career, Bocelli has blended classical and contemporary sounds with albums like "Cieli di Toscana" (2001), "Amore" (2006), and "Cinema" (2015), a tribute to film music. Known for collaborations with artists such as Jennifer Lopez and Nelly Furtado, he has graced prestigious stages including the Metropolitan Opera and delivered iconic performances like the free Central Park concert immortalized in "Concerto: One Night in Central Park." Andrea Bocelli’s enduring appeal cements his status as a classical crossover icon and one of Italy’s most treasured musical exports.
