About Therapy?

Therapy? is a pioneering alternative metal and rock band that originated from Northern Ireland in the late 1980s. Founded by singer-guitarist Andy Cairns and drummer Fyfe Ewing, with bassist Michael McKeegan joining soon after, the trio quickly distinguished themselves by blending heavy metal influences from Black Sabbath and Judas Priest with the raw energy of post-punk acts like Killing Joke and Hüsker Dü. This unique synthesis positioned Therapy? as a bridge between the weight of Metallica and the alternative sensibility of Nirvana, setting them apart during the grunge movement’s rise in the early 1990s.

Their early EPs, such as "Baby Teeth" and "Pleasure Death" (1991), earned them indie chart acclaim and caught the attention of major labels. Therapy?’s breakthrough came with the celebrated 1994 album "Troublegum," propelled by the anthemic youth anthem "Screamager." This record propelled the band into the alternative rock mainstream and remains a defining piece of their legacy. Subsequent albums like the darker and more cinematic "Infernal Love" (1995) and the melodic "Semi-Detached" (1998) showcased their evolution despite lineup shifts, including Ewing’s departure.

Navigating industry challenges following the Seagram merger and changes in their lineup, Therapy? retained their artistic drive with albums such as "Suicide Pact: You First" (2000) and "Shameless" (2001). Transitioning to a trio in the mid-2000s, they continued to innovate with releases like "Crooked Timber" (2009) and the critically acclaimed "Disquiet" (2015), which marked their highest chart position in over a decade. Their 15th studio album, "Cleave" (2018), released on Marshall Records, reaffirmed their commitment to a melodic metal sound infused with punk vigor.

Over decades, Therapy? has transcended fleeting trends by constantly evolving, maintaining a loyal fanbase, and refusing to adhere strictly to genre conventions, securing their place as enduring icons in alternative metal and rock history.
