About Java

Formed in Paris in 2000, Java is a distinctive French band known for its inventive blend of traditional chanson and hip-hop. The group comprises singer-songwriter Erwan, better known as R.Wan, alongside accordionist and keyboardist Fixi, double bassist Jérôme, and drummer Alexis. Their debut album, "Hawaï" (2000), immediately set them apart with tracks like "Sex, Accordéon et Alcool," "Pépètes," and "Métro," which combined poetic lyricism with urban rhythms, earning both cult status and commercial success despite its unconventional style.

Java continued to showcase their genre-fusing prowess with the live album "Java sur Seine" (2001) and the studio album "Safari Croisière" (2003). Songs such as "Ramsès" pay tribute to French music legends like Serge Gainsbourg, highlighting the band’s deep musical roots and innovative approach. In 2006, R.Wan embarked on a solo venture with the single "Lâche l'Affaire" from his album "Radio Cortex," offering a contemporary reinterpretation of Renaud’s classic "Laisse Béton." That same year, Java expanded their sonic palette through collaboration and touring with reggae artist Winston MacAnuff, blending new influences into their evolving sound.

Java’s enduring appeal lies in their seamless fusion of French chanson traditions with modern genres, making them a lasting and influential force within the French music scene.
