About Phase Fatale

Since emerging in 2014, Phase Fatale— the Berlin-based electronic music project of producer and DJ Hayden Payne—has become a defining force in contemporary techno. Originally hailing from New York, Payne draws from his deep roots in underground scenes across multiple cities, channeling raw, gritty basslines and hypnotic rhythms into immersive, atmospheric soundscapes. His music combines sensual intensity with rigorous sound design, creating sonic journeys that resonate powerfully on global dancefloors.

Phase Fatale’s mastery of club dynamics is reflected in prestigious residencies at Berlin’s legendary Berghain and Tbilisi’s KHIDI, where he is celebrated for his ability to build and sustain intense energy through live sets and original productions. His discography includes three full-length albums, most notably the acclaimed 2020 release "Scanning Backwards" on Ostgut Ton. This album exemplifies Payne’s distinctive approach, merging techno’s underground heritage with forward-thinking innovation.

In 2018, Hayden Payne launched the BITE label to promote cutting-edge electronic music from diverse international artists. Influenced by pioneers such as Pablo Bozzi—known for shaping “Italo Body Music”—BITE has established itself as an influential tastemaker. The label’s milestone compilation "Shedding Skin" (2023) marked five years of bold sonic curation and global showcases, solidifying Phase Fatale’s role at the forefront of techno’s evolving landscape.
