About Aunty Freeda

Aunty Freeda is a distinctive Leeds-based musical collective led by a half-Georgian singer-songwriter whose work merges baroque pop, Georgian folk, and jazz into a rich and original soundscape. Drawing creative inspiration from influential artists such as Kate Bush, Fiona Apple, and Black Country, New Road, Aunty Freeda crafts emotionally resonant songs characterized by intricate instrumentation, unconventional rhythms, and infectious melodies. The project is deeply informed by the theatricality and dramatic flair of 1970s and 80s live performances, offering audiences visually and sonically compelling shows that balance vulnerability with universal relatability.

At the heart of Aunty Freeda’s music lies a powerful narrative stemming from the artist’s personal experiences as a queer woman. This perspective shapes songs that are both intimate and broadly accessible, weaving together complex emotions and jolty metrics to captivate listeners. Supported by a talented ensemble of collaborators, the group thrives on musical experimentation and exceptional musicianship. Their commitment to blending heritage with innovation has positioned Aunty Freeda as one of the most compelling and promising acts to emerge from the vibrant Leeds music scene, continuing to engage diverse audiences with authenticity and artistic depth.
