About The Kooks

The Kooks, a Brighton-based indie rock band, have carved out a distinctive place in the English music scene since their formation. Over nearly two decades, the group has undergone lineup changes and evolving sounds, but they recently embarked on a creative renaissance that reaffirmed their original vision. With the release of their seventh album, *Never Know* (2022), The Kooks intentionally stripped away years of polish to recapture the spontaneous energy and raw authenticity that initially defined them—not by replicating the sound of their debut, but by embracing its vibrant spirit.

Frontman Hugh Harris described this comeback as a return to the band's essence: crafting joyful, heartfelt pop with an almost childlike simplicity. Guitarist Luke Pritchard revealed that earlier records had become too polished and "too easy," so for *Never Know*, they fostered an informal, relaxed studio atmosphere. In a clever move, Pritchard intentionally presented the sessions as mere demos to collaborating musicians, which cultivated an environment of ease and experimentation. This approach renewed The Kooks’ confidence and natural swagger, blending well-crafted songwriting with an organic, imperfect flair.
