About Chico Bernardes

Chico Bernardes is a dynamic Brazilian singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from São Paulo, who first captured attention with his self-titled debut album in 2019. At just 20 years old, he showcased remarkable musicianship by recording the entire album alone at Estúdio Canoa, playing every instrument himself. Rooted initially in folk music, Bernardes' early sound highlighted intimate arrangements centered on voice, guitar, and piano, which he brought to life through solo tours across major Brazilian cities and Portugal.

The COVID-19 pandemic became a turning point in Chico Bernardes' career, prompting him to build a home studio and expand his creative horizons. During this period, he collaborated with notable artists such as Brazil’s Luiza Brina and Arthur Decloedt, Uruguay’s Paul Higgs, and Christopher Bear from the acclaimed indie band Grizzly Bear. These partnerships encouraged him to delve into music production and engineering, leading him away from his folk origins toward a more experimental and rhythmically diverse sound.

Influenced by legendary musicians like Nick Drake, Ryuichi Sakamoto, Gilberto Gil, Joni Mitchell, and Steve Reich, Chico Bernardes fuses vintage warmth with contemporary electronic textures. His evolving style offers an “experimental-existentialist” sonic journey, blending personal storytelling with innovative soundscapes. Constantly reinventing himself, Bernardes stands out as a fearless artist whose evolving music continues to captivate audiences eager for fresh and deeply authentic experiences.
