About The Chesterfield Kings

Originating from Rochester, New York, The Chesterfield Kings emerged in the late 1970s as trailblazers of the garage rock revival. Deeply rooted in the raw energy and style of 1960s rock—drawing inspiration from The Rolling Stones to acoustic blues—they carved out a distinctive niche during a time when music was shifting toward polished, hair metal-driven sounds. This authentic approach earned them lasting recognition, with Steven Van Zandt famously crediting them in 2024 for essentially inventing garage rock amidst the MTV era dominated by hair metal.

Over their career, The Chesterfield Kings released an impressive catalog of 11 albums and 15 singles, showcasing their commitment to the genre’s revival and evolution. Their relentless touring schedule took them worldwide, bringing their vintage sound to a new generation of rock enthusiasts. Mainstream audiences also caught glimpses of their work through appearances on popular television programs such as Jimmy Kimmel Live, Late Night with Conan O’Brien, and a memorable guest spot as themselves on HBO’s acclaimed series The Sopranos.

After a hiatus beginning in 2009, The Chesterfield Kings reignited their legacy with fresh recordings and live shows, reconnecting with fans after more than 15 years away.
